Benefit

  • Single integrated application; the system suggests the schemes you are eligible for.
  • Scholarship money goes directly into the student's bank account through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
  • From AY 2026-27, apply for one merit-based scheme plus one or more welfare-based schemes, as eligible.
  • National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMSS): ₹12,000 per annum for Classes IX–XII in government, aided and local body schools.
  • PM-USP Central Sector Scholarship (CSSS): ₹12,000 per annum for the first three years of graduation and ₹20,000 per annum at post-graduation.

How to apply

Steps

  1. On scholarships.gov.in, click 'Apply For One Time Registration (OTR)', register your mobile number and complete Aadhaar eKYC to get a Reference number.
  2. Install the NSP OTR App and Aadhaar FaceRD App, complete face authentication and receive your 14-digit OTR number.
  3. Log in (OTR, Aadhaar or APAAR) and fill in Basic Information – general, academic and application details.
  4. Go to 'Apply Fresh', accept the guidelines and generate an Application ID.
  5. Select the scheme, upload the required documents and click 'Final Submit' before the scheme's last date.
  6. Get it verified by your Institute (L1) and the District/State nodal officer (L2); track the payment on PFMS 'Know Your Payment'.
  7. Need help? CSCs can do the whole process for a total of ₹30.

NSP Scholarship: questions people ask

What is One-Time Registration (OTR)?

A unique number generated after you register with your mobile number and complete e-KYC. It is generated once and remains valid throughout the student's academic career.

Is One-Time Registration mandatory?

Yes, OTR is mandatory for all services on NSP. It serves as the username for logging in and is required to complete face authentication.

What do I need to create my OTR?

An active mobile number, Aadhaar number and a mobile linked with Aadhaar (NPCI seeding status desired). Without Aadhaar: the Aadhaar enrolment slip or a parent's/legal guardian's Aadhaar (for a minor).

Is there a fee for One-Time Registration?

No, One-Time Registration is free on NSP.

Can I apply for multiple scholarships?

From AY 2026–27, yes: only one merit-based scheme per academic year (fresh and renewal included), and more than one welfare-based scheme if eligible.

How do I complete face authentication and generate OTR?

Install the Aadhaar FaceRD App and the NSP OTR App from Google Play Store, then complete face authentication using 'eKYC with FaceAuth' in the NSP OTR App.
