Benefit

Health cover of up to ₹5 lakh per family per year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalisation.
Cashless treatment at empanelled public and private hospitals, with national portability – use it at any empanelled hospital in any State/UT.
Covers up to 3 days of pre-hospitalisation and 15 days of post-hospitalisation expenses, including diagnostics and medicines.
All pre-existing conditions are covered from day one; no restriction on family size, age or gender.
Health Benefit Package covers 1,961 procedures across 27 specialties (e.g. general medicine, surgery, orthopaedics, cardiology, oncology).
Ayushman Vay Vandana Card: ₹5 lakh free health cover per year for every senior citizen aged 70+, irrespective of income.
Seniors aged 70+ in families already under AB PM-JAY get an additional top-up of up to ₹5 lakh per year for themselves (not shared with younger members).

Am I eligible for Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY?

Families identified from SECC 2011 on 6 deprivation criteria (rural) and 11 occupational criteria (urban); the base was revised to 12 crore families (bottom 40% of the population). States/UTs may verify or add beneficiaries from other databases (e.g. National Food Security Act lists) – many have expanded coverage at their own cost. Families of ASHAs, Anganwadi Workers and Anganwadi Helpers (about 37 lakh families, included in March 2024). All senior citizens aged 70 years and above, irrespective of socio-economic status (Ayushman Vay Vandana Card). Seniors with private health insurance or under the Employees' State Insurance (ESI) scheme are also eligible.

Not eligible (exclusions) Seniors aged 70+ already covered under CGHS, ECHS or Ayushman CAPF must choose either their existing scheme or AB PM-JAY.

How to apply

Steps

Check eligibility and apply on the Ayushman App or the web portal beneficiary.nha.gov.in (self-registration available).
Complete Aadhaar eKYC to create your Ayushman card.
Download the Ayushman card / Ayushman Vay Vandana card from the app or portal.
Or register at the nearest empanelled hospital or Common Service Centre (CSC).
You can also use the Ayushman Sarathi WhatsApp chatbot: send "Hi" to +91 72908 23838.
At an empanelled hospital, show your card and complete Aadhaar authentication for cashless treatment.

Documents

Aadhaar – only Aadhaar is required for Ayushman Vay Vandana (70+) registration.
Aadhaar eKYC is done when the Ayushman card is created, and Aadhaar authentication is done when availing treatment.
